Meet sweet AJ! He was diagnosed with DIPG while on vacation with his family in Florida this summer. Upon their return to Illinois we wanted to make a day that would be so special for the whole family! AJ mentioned that he loves police and firemen and also loves super heroes like Spiderman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles. AJ’s day began with the Round Lake Fire Department and Police Department showing up at his house with a vehicle convoy including lights and sirens to welcome him home and escort him to his welcome home party! The fire department made him an honorary member of their crew complete with his own badge AND fire gear with his name on the jacket! Then, AJ and family climbed into the fire truck and were escorted to his welcome home party at the Jump Zone. There, his convoy of fire and police vehicles was met by the Wauconda fire department with more sirens waiting to greet him

CKMC sent the family home with gift bags for AJ and his 3 siblings with all their favorite things and some additional financial help for the family to help with medical bills. AJ loves to ride his bike but has been having some balance issues, so CKMC bought him a new low-profile three-wheeled bike that he’ll be able to ride. He loved it! AJ’s family was so grateful and had a wonderful day and night. They are truly an amazing group of people and we are very happy to have them as part of our cooley family. CKMC board member Michelle Domino was blown away by the kindness and support for AJ’s family and will always remember this day and experience, and hopes AJ and his family will as well.
