Frank

In the Spring of 2013, CKMC gave a Kiss of HOPE to Frank and his family. Frank was battling brain cancer for more than 7 years, and it ultimately took his precious life on March 25th 2013.

Frank was referred to us by our partnership with Journeycare. Frank’s tumor was progressing at the time of the referral, so we knew time was of the essence.

Frank and his older brother were always been passionate about scooters. And for the last few years, they were restoring Frank’s Ruckus Scooter. They weren’t able to work on it together since Frank’s disease affected his mobility a few months prior. They even belonged to a special scooter club know as the “Chi-Town Ruckus”. Frank’s brother told us that finishing the scooter would be a wonderful gift and surprise for Frank.

So, CKMC got their resources together and found a specialty bike shop called Swapt Chicago. Frank and his brother visited this shop in the past, and the owner was more than willing to help make this dream come true. Parts, modifications, and a paint job were all in the works – then we got the news… Frank passed away, before he was able to see his bike restored.

Although we were crushed, we pressed on for Frank’s family – we knew that this gift would be a wonderful gift and legacy for his family for years to come. So in May, we gathered at Franks’s home with Swapt Chicago, surrounded by his family and friends, and his care givers. We presented the scooter to Frank’s family, and enjoyed a Pizza feast outside – talking about Frank, his wonderful smile, and all of the memories that will be enstilled in us for forever.

A BIG thanks to Daryl at Swapt Chicago for donating his time in restoring a wonderful keepsake for the family to enjoy for years to come. You can visit the wonderful work Swapt Chicago does by clicking here.
