I have been a lifelong resident of the Northern Fox Valley area where I work in the education technology industry. My wife Cindy and I have been blessed with 3 beautiful children. In April of 2005, our youngest son Joey came home from kindergarten with slurred speech and was walking off balance. We took him to the emergency room where he was diagnosed with a Pontine Glioma, an inoperable tumor within his brain stem. With surgical removal not being an option, we began meeting with doctors and specialists to put together his plan for care. Although the hospital had a great team of doctors, most support avenues offered to us were mostly informational and the resources were not close to our home. Friends, family, neighbors and even the kindness of complete strangers became our support structure at home, helping us logistically, emotionally and financially. Joey passed away in November of 2005 and Cindy and I still feel that the support we received from the local community was equally as important as the care we received from the medical community. I am proud and excited to be serving on the board for cancer kiss my cooley™ in hope that we can provide some relief and support to other families facing this illness.
